It was first developed by the joint efforts of the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA). DICOM is an international standard for storing, processing, printing, displaying, and transmitting medical images such as MRI and CT scans. DICOMDIR is a file that functions as a directory for Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) file sets. DICOMDIR files mostly belong to DICOM by NEMA.
